Small businesses are not only the backbone of the local St. Louis economy, but they’re also part of the global economic fabric. Today, June 27th is a day designated by the United Nations as Micro-, Small, Medium Enterprise Day.

Massey Tuckpointing and Masonry, a WBE-owned, family-owned St. Louis business, is part of the local, regional, national and world’s economic engines. In addition to employing 10 Missourians, Massey Tuckpointing also does business with many outstanding local retailers and service providers. By doing business with local small businesses and hiring locals for the majority of their business needs, they keep money and talent in Missouri and grow the local economy. We are proud of our work, reputation, employees, and contributions as a small enterprise.

Since 2017 and after a declaration from the UN, Micro-, Small and Medium-sized businesses have celebrated this day in recognition of their work in local and global economies. These micro, small, and medium-sized companies generally employ fewer than 250 persons, and are the backbone of economies worldwide and play a key role in developing countries.

According to the United Nations and data furnished by the International Council for Small Business (ICSB), formal and informal Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) comprise over 90% of all firms globally and account on average for 60-70% of total employment and 50% of the world’s GDP.

The UN General Assembly, recognizing the importance of micro-, small and medium businesses, decided in 2017 to declare 27 June the Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Day to raise public awareness of these enterprises’ contributions to sustainable development and local economies around the world.
